STATE CENTRAL LIBRARY, IMPHAL is a Public Library established in the year 1958 under the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur . It is located in the hearth of Imphal City Keishampat, Imphal and under this 1 Branch Library; 12 District Libraries in 12 district of Manipur and 101 Voluntary run NGOs Libraries run under the Government of Manipur to support public library services and systems and promote public library movement in the state.

The first Public Library started by the Government of Manipur is the present State Central Library, Imphal. It was started as a District Library at Imphal in 1958 and later on upgraded as the State Central Library, Imphal. There are 13 – Government Libraries (12 – District Libraries +1 Branch Library at Ningthoukhong and 1 – State Central Library, Imphal).

LIBRARY BOOKS :- The total number of books in the State Central Library, Imphal during the year 2023-24 is 103000 (State purchase,RRRLF,Saved,Gifted books) 

NEWS PAPER / MAGAZINES / JOURNALS :- The State Central Library, Imphal has been a regular subscriber of News paper / Magazines / Journals from within the State as well as from the Outside the State of Manipur. The total number is 61.

LIBRARY HOUR

The State Central Library, Imphal remains open for public readers from 09: 30 a.m till 5:30 p.m. on all working days. General Holiday & Saturday, Sunday remains closed.

RAJA RAMMOHON ROY LIBRARY FOUNDATION,KOLKATA – WING:-

Manipur has been participating in the schemes of the Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata since 1981-82. The Foundation has been giving its Financial Assistance to Government Libraries in Manipur including 101 –Beneficiary Libraries under Foundation’s Matching Scheme of Financial Assistance for purchase of books, furniture, equipment, Library awareness programmes including extension of Library Building. SCL,Imphal works in close association and active cooperation with Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation (RRRLF), Kolkata through a machinery called State Library Planning Committee (SLPC/SLC) to participate in Foundation’s programmes.

OBJECTIVE:

  • To promote library movement in the country.
  • To enunciate a national library policy and to help build up a national library system.
  • To promote NGOs run Voluntary Club libraries.
